I get that he was due to get a big contract but we gotta pay someone... I dont want to doubt Darth Hoodie but Collins is a hell of a player. Poor guy though, imagine getting told you’re going to the Browns.
Yes I know sports but most of my friends don’t like murica sports so I gotta rant somewhere!

This actually makes a bit of sense. If Collins walked after this year the Patriots would get a compensatory 3rd-round pick in 2018, now they get the same pick but a year early. Plus rumor has it Collins was asking for ‘Von Miller money’, which must’ve been the first time in his life BB actually laughed; dude could pay league minimum and assemble a team out of overweight truck drivers and illiterate migrant farmers and still somehow scheme a game plan to beat most of the league.

This is very true, out of players that actually get paid we probably only have gronk, mccourty and brady (who restructures his contract every five minutes anyway). Just seems a shame, especially since he’ll now never be seen again after going to the Browns.

Surprised me at first, but it makes sense.
Collins was great in the past, but this year he has been playing with very poor discipline. There are some good posts by Michael Lombardi about this. He wasn’t even the starter against the Bills. He was splitting snaps with their first round rookie.
Collins is going to demand a ridiculous amount of money at the end of this season. Von Miller money is certainly a good way of putting it. Collins is no Von Miller. It makes sense to get more out of of him before you lose that value when he becomes a UDFA.
And besides, when the Death Star is fully operational (Brady/Gronk/Edelman/Lewis/White/Bennett), you’re not gonna miss one player on defense..especially with Rob Ninkovich returning from suspension. I would be SHOCKED if the trade away Hightower as well, though.

Yeah its one of those things that slowly make more and more sense as time passes. Im sure well look back on it in a year and just nod in agreement that it was a good move.

American football, I’m not going to argue against it being incomprehensible, sometimes it is even to fans. Still love watching it though.
